Magical Apothecary WIP #2

Work In Progress / 21 June 2020

The past couple of months have made it pretty hard to stay focused or motivated on my personal art projects. Fortunately, personal projects are meant to help you grow. Not stress yourself out. So while this project has taken longer than I'd like, I would say that I'm still enjoying the process itself.

Recently, I had the opportunity to have my portfolio reviewed. One thing that I was told was to make sure that my props feel more complex. This is something I'm hoping to work on with this project. I think having a mood board is helping with that. For my mood board, I've decided to use Pinterest, as the site is very useful when it comes to anything and everything design.

Below is a view of where my magical apothecary is right now. I plan to add more props and I still have some rearranging to do. It almost feels like I'm moving in! Things are still being sorted out and I'm still deciding on some colors. I'm also looking forward to taking some props into zBrush so that I can add a little more detail to them.

The textures on the door need some tweaking. I think I may have changed something in my Substance Painter settings so I got sort that out. I'm also not happy with the open/closed sign so I'll be tweaking that too.

A lot of times, I start texturing things to see if I really like how they fit in the scene. I know I probably shouldn't do it that way, but for personal projects, I like to play around a lot.

There are also more bottles to be made, so clearly, we've got a ways to go. I did end up moving the POS system to the other counter and I'm liking the flow of the environment a lot more.

Perhaps I'll hop on Twitch one of these days and do some modeling live for anyone who may be interested. Let me know if you are!

I hope you all had a great Juneteenth and that you are staying safe and sane out there.
